The Priority of Prayer: Direct Commands from Allah without the Intermediary of the Angel Gabriel

Prayer is Allah’s command given directly to the Prophet (ﷺ) without the intermediary of the angel Gabriel.

This shows the very high position of prayer in Islam.

From Anas bin Malik radhiyallahu ‘anhu that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said:

So Allah then revealed to me what He revealed, He obliged me to pray fifty prayers every day and night. I then went down to meet Musa ‘alaihis sallam, he said; What has your Lord made mandatory for your people? I said: Fifty prayers. Musa said: Return to your Lord and ask for relief. The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: So I always went back and forth between my Lord Tabaraka wa ta’ala and Musa ‘alaihis salam until Allah said: O Muhammad, verily the prayer is five times a day and night. Each prayer is ten, that’s fifty prayers.”

(HR. Bukhari no. 349 and Muslim no. 162)

Initially 50 prayers were required.

This shows that Allah really likes the prayer service.

Then Allah made it easier for His servants to 5 times a day and night.

However, the prayer is still counted in the balance of 50 prayers, even though the practice is only 5 times.

This shows the priority of prayer and the noble position of prayer.
