Tetapi sang kakek melarangnya ikut, “Koko kan masih kecil.
Setelah satu tahun lewat, Koko menagih janji kakeknya, “Sudah satu tahun lewat, Kek.
Begitu pula Kakek sibuk mencari Koko.
Namun, mereka tak saling berjumpa sampai malam tiba.
The Lame Bird (Indonesian Folklore from South Sulawesi)
On the edge of a dense forest, there lived a grandfather with a limping grandson named Koko.
Grandfather loved to tell stories about the forest.
One day, Koko wanted to go with his grandfather into the forest.
But his grandfather forbade him to come, “Koko is still small. The forest has many dangers for your age. “Maybe next year, Koko will be able to go with Grandpa to the forest,” said Grandpa.
After one year had passed, Koko fulfilled his grandfather’s promise, “It’s been one year, Grandpa. “Let me go to the forest,” said Koko.
“Not now, son. “You’re still not old enough,” said the grandfather.
But Koko kept whining and forcing him, until finally the grandfather allowed him to go into the forest.
“You can play in the forest, but don’t go too far with Grandpa, okay?”
Wow, how happy Koko is in the forest.
He ran and played as much as he wanted in the forest until he forgot Grandpa’s message.
He was so engrossed that he played too far into the forest, so he didn’t realize he was separated from Grandpa.
When evening arrived, Koko realized that he was far apart from Grandpa.
Terrified, Koko looked around and screamed for Grandpa.
Likewise, Grandpa was busy looking for Koko.
However, they did not meet each other until night fell.
Never getting tired, Grandpa continued looking for Koko in the forest for days.
After a week of searching for Koko in the forest, Grandpa got a clue.
Grandpa heard a strange bird call in the middle of the forest.
“Moo… pooo… mo… pooo!”
Grandpa saw that the bird had a lame leg.
So, Grandpa remembered Koko who had a limping leg.
And the bird’s voice is similar to Koko’s call to him, “Opoo,” which means grandfather.
How sad Grandpa must have been, after finding out that his beloved grandson had been lost in the forest and had now turned into a bird. ***
Moral message:
Obey your parents’ advice. If you don’t know the way, don’t play far because you might get lost.
