Burung Pembangun Istana
Berulang kali ia memanggil nama kakaknya.
Panggilan itu dijawab oleh hantu-hantu hutan.
Mereka sengaja menyesatkan Suri Ikun.
Mereka ingin membebaskan Suri Ikun.
Pesan Moral: Suatu kebaikan akan berbuah keberuntungan.
Palace building bird
(Indonesian Folklore from East Nusa Tenggara)
In ancient times, there lived a farmer with his wife and fourteen children.
Seven boys and seven girls.
Even though they have a large garden, the garden’s produce is not sufficient for their needs.
Because their gardens are often destroyed by wild boars.
Then the farmer assigned his sons to take turns guarding their garden from wild boar attacks.
However, only Suri Ikun was willing.
His other six brothers were timid and bad-tempered.
One day, his eldest brother asked Suri Ikun to come with him to look for his father’s machete which had been left in the middle of the forest.
At that time, it was already getting late.
At night, the forest is inhabited by evil ghosts.
Feeling afraid, Suri Ikun walked after his brother.
When he came home, he didn’t know that his brother had taken another route to their house.
All that remained was Suri Ikun, who increasingly entered the middle of the forest.
He repeatedly called his brother’s name.
The call was answered by the forest ghosts.
They deliberately misled Suri Ikun.
After Suri Ikun was in the middle of the forest, the ghosts caught him.
Because he was considered still skinny, he didn’t eat Suri Ikun straight away.
He was then locked in a cave and fed regularly.
The cave was very dark.
However, fortunately there was a gap beside him, so Suri Ikun could still see sunlight entering the cave.
From this gap, Suri Ikun saw two hungry baby birds.
He also shared his food with them.
After many years, the birds grew into very large and strong birds.
They want to free Suri Ikun.
One day, the ghosts opened the cave door.
The two birds attacked and injured the ghosts
Then they flew Suri Ikun to an area with high hills.
With their magical powers, the birds built a palace complete with bodyguards and palace servants.
It was there that Suri Ikun lived happily ever after. ***
