Si Pahit Lidah dan Si Mata Empat (Cerita Rakyat Sumatera Selatan Bilingual)
- Updated: Februari 22, 2024
Kini, Si Mata Empat menjadi pendekar paling sakti.
The Bitter Tongue and the Four Eyes (South Sumatra Folklore)
There were two brave warriors, named Bitter Tongue and Four Eyes. Unfortunately, they always compete and think they are the best.
Until one day, they fought to determine who was the greatest. The fight was even. To determine who won, they finally decided that one of them would lie face down under a palm tree and his opponent would take turns dropping bunches of palm flowers from the top of the tree. And whoever is hit by the palm flower bunch is declared the loser.
Four Eyes got the first turn. The Four Eyes has four eyes, namely two at the front and two at the back of its head.
With agility, Bitter Tongue climbed the sugar palm tree and managed to cut the flowers. Meanwhile, Four Eyes was lying face down under a palm tree. Because he has four eyes, Four Eyes managed to avoid the palm flowers that were dropped from the tree by Pahit Tongue. Good luck Four Eyes.
Now, it was Four Eyes’ turn to climb the sugar palm tree. Meanwhile, Pahit Lidah was lying face down under a palm tree. Four Eyes quickly cut the palm flower and dropped it on Si Bitter Tongue’s body. Bitter Tongue couldn’t escape. As a result, Pahit Tongue’s body was hit by sharp palm flowers. Immediately he died.
Now, Four Eyes is the most powerful warrior. However, Four Eyes was still curious about the tongue that Bitter Tongue had. Is his tongue really as bitter as its name?
Bitter Tongue’s mouth opened. Then he put his index finger on Bitter Tongue’s tongue. Then, he licked his index finger which had been stained with Bitter Tongue’s saliva.
“Oops! It really tastes very bitter.” It is true that the bitter taste is a deadly poison on the tongue of the Bitter Tongue. Finally, Four Eyes died instantly.
Now, there are no longer any famous warriors at that time. They died in vain due to their own arrogance.
